This programme provides an accessible focus for conservation, indicating sites, habitats, and key threats. Guyra Paraguay performs species inventories and censuses, systematizing available biological information to identify threatened species, prioritize them, and elaborate and implement conservation action plans.
Aquatic and migratory birds, as well as threatened species, receive special attention, as much on a national level as on a regional level. The state of the conservation of birds, as well as other taxa, especially amphibians and reptiles, is constantly monitored. The monitoring of species feeds the biological databases of Paraguay, as well as international databases. Trips to the field are performed in order to collect the necessary information, totaling, in the year 2007, 111 days in the field, and 55 distinct site visits.
Amongst the activities performed by this programme, we can also note that Guyra Paraguay participated, on a national and international level, in technical meetings regarding Bird Flu, cooperating with the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), and the National Animal Quality and Health Service (SENACSA).
On a regional level, the Aquatic Bird Conservation of the Americas final project report was completed, with a special emphasis on the wetlands of South America, summarizing the state of conservation and the occurrence of all of the aquatic species of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
