Salt Lagoons compose the channel known as the “Yacaré” stream, which flows between the departments Presidente Hayes and Alto Paraguay. The region, recognized as the IBA PY010, is very important because of its brackish, or “saline”, lagoons, in which important quantities of migratory Nearctics (like plovers) and migratory australs (like the flamingo) congregate each year. Guyra Paraguay’s work has focused principally on the coordination of an annual aquatic bird census (CNAA according to its initials in Spanish) and on the support of the work of other organizations, like the Fundación desde el Chaco (Foundation from the Chaco) and the Red Paraguaya de Conservación en Tierras Privadas (Paraguayan Network for the Conservation of Private Land). Guyra Paraguay collaborated closely with these organizations to declare Chaco Lodge a Ramsar site, and continues to promote it as an excellent site for nature and birding tourism.
